NEW DELHI – About 200 mothers gang up on their murder and rape in a courtroom in Nagpur district, Maharashtra, India.
Quoted in detik.com which was launched in The Guardian and BBC, the rapists were identified as Akku Yadav who is known as a thug who likes to blackmail residents of Kasturba Nagar, Nagpur District.
More than a decade. Yadav and his gang terrorized 300 families in Kasturba Nagar. They arbitrarily break into houses to ask for money. Sometimes make threats and harassment.
According to residents, the bandit man killed at least three residents and dumped their bodies on the railway tracks. Residents have reported the crimes to the police dozens of times. But strangely, every time he was arrested, he was always granted bail.
Yadav used rape to destroy and humiliate the citizens. Salaph, a rape victim, lives in a house in a slum.
Yadav once ordered his accomplices to drag girls, including a 12-year-old girl, to an abandoned building for gang rape.
Never charged with rape
But the 32-year-old man was never accused of rape. Instead, the women said, the police would tell him who made the report and he would go after them.
According to residents, the police are cooperating with Yadav. Yadav gave bribes and drinks to the local officers and they protected him.
When a 22-year-old boy reported being raped by Yadav, the police accused him of having an affair and told him to leave.
Brutal execution
Fed up with Yadav’s seeming impunity, on August 6, hundreds of residents razed Yadav’s vacant house to rubble. In the middle of the night it was heard that Yadav had ‘surrendered’ and was detained.
He is due to appear in the Nagpur district court tomorrow. When Yadav arrived, one of his men tried to pass a knife wrapped in a blanket under the policeman’s nose.
After the women protested, his accomplices were arrested and Yadav was taken back to jail. Yadav then threatened the women back.
On the day of Yadav’s trial, 200 women came to court with vegetable knives and chili powder. As he entered, Yadav saw one of the women he had raped. He called her a whore and threatened to replay his heinous act against her. The police who saw this laughed.
The woman took off her sandals and started hitting Yadav shouting “We can’t live together on this earth. It’s you or me.”
It was a cry that enraged the masses. Yadav was immediately attacked from all sides by 200 women. The women pulled out a knife and the two frightened officers who were guarding him ran away.
Chili powder was thrown in Akku Yadav’s face and stoned on his head. As he struggled and resisted, one of his victims cut his pigeon with a vegetable knife. 70 stab wounds pierced his body.
Five Batters Arrested
Five attackers were arrested immediately after killing Yadav. They were later released after city-wide protests demanding justice.
The judges accepted the applications amid protests by hundreds of women who threatened to stay out of court until their demands were met. This case became so phenomenal in India, when 200 persecuted women took justice into their own hands.***
