The Indonesian government has inaugurated 190 Satellite Food Service Units (SPPG), also known as ‘dapur’, to commence the Free Nutritious Meal (Makan Bergizi Gratis – MBG) program. These units, spread across 26 provinces, began operations today, Monday, January 6, 2025.
The Satellite Food Service Units are the implementing bodies of the MBG program, responsible for supplying meals to the beneficiaries. The National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional – BGN) has confirmed that these 190 locations are ready for operation as of January 6, 2025.
The BGN’s Head of Legal and Public Relations, Kombes Pol Lalu Muhammad Iwan Mahardan, revealed this information in an official statement on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
West Java tops the list with the highest number of SPPG locations, at 57. Other provinces with these units include Aceh, Bali, Banten, DIY, Jakarta, Gorontalo, Central Java, East Java, and more.
Previously, the Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Dadan Hindayana, had assured that the Free Nutritious Meal Program would begin on January 6, 2025. Initially, the program aims to reach around 3 million beneficiaries, with plans to expand to 17 million by the end of 2025.
The Free Nutritious Meal Program, a flagship initiative of President Prabowo Subianto, is expected to provide nutritious meals to underprivileged children and families, ensuring they have access to balanced and adequate food.
