Article:

Jakarta – The Jakarta Corruption Court has declared that Indonesia has suffered a staggering loss of Rp 300 trillion due to corruption in the management of tin commodity trade in the mining concession area of PT Timah Tbk between 2015 and 2022. But where has all that corrupt money gone?

Judges, led by Suparman Nyompa, outlined the nation’s losses as follows:

  • Rp 2.28 trillion due to inappropriate processing and smelting rental fees.
  • Rp 26.65 trillion from the purchase of illegal tin ore.
  • And Rp 271.07 trillion in environmental damage costs.

The corrupt gains were funneled to several individuals and corporations involved in the case. Here’s who benefited:

  1. Amir Syahbana, Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Agency in Bangka Belitung Province (2021-2024): Rp 325.99 million.
  2. Suparta, through PT Refined Bangka Tin (RBT): Rp 4.57 trillion.
  3. Tamron (‘Aon’), via CV Venus Inti Perkasa (VIP) and PT Menara Cipta Mulia (MCM): Rp 3.66 trillion.
  4. Robert Indarto, through PT Sariwiguna Binasentosa (SBS): Rp 1.92 trillion.
  5. Suwito Gunawan (‘Awi’), via PT Stanindo Inti Perkasa (SIP): Rp 2.2 trillion.
  6. Hendry Lie, via PT Tinindo Inter Nusa (TIN): Rp 52.57 billion.
  7. 375 mining service partners: Rp 10.38 trillion.

Additionally, Rp 420 billion was collected from private smelters through PT Quantum Skyline Exchange (QSE), managed by Harvey Moeis and Helena Lim (PT RBT), with no clear record of its use.

"Thus, all these defendants are also liable to pay compensation for the state’s losses," announced Judge Suparman Nyompa during the sentencing, as reported by Antara News on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
