Federal prosecutors have charged four individuals in connection with a massive cocaine trafficking operation involving a sophisticated subterranean tunnel. Following the arrests, federal agents searched the “Buy 4 Less” location and discovered a 55-foot-deep tunnel. The tunnel was accessed via a sophisticated hydraulic lift and extended more than 1,000 feet to the US-Mexico border.
Officials believe the tunnel continues for an additional 800 feet into the Mexican city of Tijuana. The passage was approximately 4.5 feet tall and was equipped with electricity, ventilation, and a rail and cart system.
