Breaking: 7.1 Magnaitude Earthquake Rocks Tibet, Setting off Waves in Neighboring Countries
A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 has struck Tibet, causing ripples of concern across several nations. The quake, which occurred on Tuesday, is one of the strongest to hit the region in recent years.
According to seismic data, the earthquake struck at around 06:34 AM local time, with its epicenter located in the Nyingchi prefecture of Tibet. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of just 10 kilometers, making it a particularly shallow event.
Witnesses in Tibet have reported scenes of chaos and panic, with residential buildings shaking violently and debris from landslides blocking roads. "I was walking down the street when the ground suddenly trembled," recounted a local resident. "People started running in all directions, screaming and crying."
The earthquake’s effects were not limited to Tibet alone. Neighboring countries like Nepal and India have also reported feeling the tremors. In Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, residents rushed out of their homes and offices, fearing the worst in a nation still recovering from a devastating earthquake five years ago.
Daying Glacier, located close to the earthquake’s epicenter, also reported experiencing three degrees of magnification due to the quake. While initial assessments suggest no landslides occurred from the glacier, the situation is being closely monitored.
The quake comes just days after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Tibetan region of Xigaze, causing numerous buildings to collapse and leaving several people injured. This latest event serves as a stark reminder of the region’s vulnerability to these geological phenomena.
