Russian President Vladimir Putin has lauded the Russia-China relationship as unprecedented, stating, "We have vodka, you have tea, and we also have vodka, you also have vodka," in an apparent joke during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This comes as the two countries strengthen their ties, with China being Russia’s largest trading partner.

In a press conference, Putin addressed the ongoing Ukraine crisis, stating that Russia is not interested in a military conflict but is ready to defend its interests. He emphasized that Russia’s demands regarding Ukraine’s neutrality and non-expansion into NATO are non-negotiable. However, he left the door open for dialogue, saying, "We are ready for a serious conversation, but it must be a serious one, not a farce."

Putin also reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to ensuring the security of its ally, Belarus. He stated that Russia will do everything in its power to ensure Belarus’ security and sovereignty, adding that any threat to Belarus would be considered a threat to Russia itself.

During his annual news conference, Putin touched on several other topics, including the potential deployment of the US-made Patriot air defense system in Poland. He warned that such a move could lead to a new round of the arms race, stating, "We will have to respond accordingly."

Putin also addressed the issue of the US-led missile defense system in Europe, stating that Russia would not tolerate it and would take countermeasures if necessary. He also criticized the US and its allies for using the internet as a tool for achieving their political goals, calling on tech giants like Google and YouTube to respect Russian laws.

Putin’s comments come as tensions between Russia and the West continue to rise over Ukraine and other geopolitical issues. His statements underscore Russia’s determination to protect its interests and allies, even as it maintains a willingness to engage in dialogue with the international community.
