The death of twin sisters Mille and Mina Hjalmarsen in January 2023 has загаpped national attention in Norway, and the Oslo Police District’s handling of the case has been under scrutiny. Now, a special unit for police affairs has concluded their investigation and recommended that the case be closed.

The sisters, aged 16, were found lifeless at an address in Spydeberg, later confirmed to have succumbed to heroin overdoses. Their mother, Kirsti Skogsholm, had begged police to trace their phones, but the desperate pleas fell on deaf ears.

In a press release, the Special Unit for Police Affairs confirmed that the Oslo Police District did not trace the phones of Mille and Mina despite repeated requests from the institution they resided in. The unit found that a phone call made for assistance on January 7, 2023, at 12:42 PM was not logged in the police’s operational system.

In their conclusion, the Special Unit noted that the lack of phone tracing in itself does not constitute a criminal offense. They also found no evidence of gross negligence or misconduct by the police in handling the case. The Oslo Police District maintained that they lacked sufficient information to take immediate action to save lives.

However, the unit acknowledged that the phone call should have been logged. Moreover, the mother of the deceased expresses her dismay and disappointment with the outcome, Révolutionary hoping that the police will learn from this tragic incident.

The case against two men suspected of involvement in the sisters’ deaths continues. One is charged with involuntary manslaughter, while the other is accused of selling drugs to the twins and leaving them in a helpless state. The Oslo Police District considers their investigation against these men complete and has forwarded the case to the prosecution authority.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
