Headline: 26-Year-Old Admits Shame After Being Charged with Sexual Relations with a Minor
In an Oslo district court hearing on Wednesday, a 26-year-old man admitted to feeling ashamed after being charged with engaging in sexual relations with a minor girl. The alleged incident occurred late in the evening of February 2023 behind some bushes near Oslo S.
"I am ashamed," the man stated. "Now I want to make amends."
The Meeting and Events Leading Up to the Incident
The two individuals met inside Oslo S. The man had been struggling with substance abuse, while the girl, who had run away from a youth institution elsewhere in the country, was also heavily intoxicated.
When a warden noticed the girl’s drunken state and wanted to check on her, the man reportedly reassured them, saying, "It’s fine, I’m taking care of her."
Surveillance footage showed the couple walking towards the Opera house, with the girl appearing so intoxicated that she needed the man’s support. At one point, she fell to the ground and remained there for over a minute before he helped her up, and they continued on their way.
The Serious Charge and Investigation
The man’s actions led to him being charged with a serious offense, as the girl was under the age of 16 at the time. Initially, the case was investigated as rape, but this was later changed to engaging in sexual relations with a minor, punishable by up to six years in prison.
In a prepared statement played in court on Wednesday, the 14-year-old girl recalled only brief moments, including sitting on a bench for what felt like an hour and later finding herself lying on the ground behind some bushes.
Alcohol and Consent: A Delicate Balance
As per Norwegian law, having sexual relations with someone under the age of 16 is considered statutory rape, regardless of who initiates the act. Moreover, typically, age is not considered a defense in such cases. However, the man claimed that he remembered her mentioning an age of 17 or 18, although he admitted he did not verify this information.

Snapchat Evidence
The man is also charged with taking a photo of the girl while she was lying intoxicated on the ground in her underwear and sending it via Snapchat to one or more people, with the caption "Trippin’ in the woods." According to the charge, when contacted about the photo, the man replied, "She agreed to it." The 14-year-old girl was reportedly not the only one using her phone that evening, highlighting the prevalence of filming and sharing such content on social media among today’s youth.
The Man’s Regret and Plans for the Future
Now, the 26-year-old man expresses regret for his actions and states that he has been sober since April. He plans to turn his life around and grasp new opportunities. Reflecting on his past, he admits that his decision to start drinking and abusing substances at a young age led him down this path.
At the conclusion of his statement, the judge offered the man some advice: "Either it’s abuse, or you must abstain." The court’s final decision and sentencing date have not been determined yet.
