A man from Akershus received an unexpected surprise when he returned to his car after a quick shopping trip – a parking ticket for 660 kroner, despite only parking for a mere two minutes and nine seconds. Jarle Nilsen was left irritated and confused by the incident, which occurred at the Fokus Senter on Sørumsand.
Nilsen had parked his car near the Rema 1000 store, where a sign indicates that customers can park for free for up to two hours. He had first visited the apotek and then intended to shop at Rema 1000. However, upon his return, he found a parking ticket on his car, stating that he had parked in a neighboring resident’s spot.
"I’ve parked here before without any issues, so I didn’t give it a second thought," Nilsen said. "To receive a ticket after such a short time is ridiculous. I haven’t even had time to shop at Rema 1000 yet."
The parking ticket came from P-Service, the company responsible for managing the parking area. When Nilsen contacted them, he was told that the ticket was issued correctly, and he was advised not to make any other stops while parking there. In practice, this means that drivers must park, enter the store, and leave immediately, without running any other errands.
"This is insane," Nilsen commented. "There’s a two-hour free parking option in front of Rema 1000. Are we really expected to spend two hours inside the store?"
The parking ticket incident has sparked debate among locals, with many taking to social media to express their frustration. Some have even suggested boycotting the shopping center and its stores.
In response to the criticism, P-Service admitted that the parking warden made a mistake in issuing the ticket, as the signage did not clearly indicate which customers were eligible for the free parking. The company has since removed the two erroneous tickets and promised to improve signage to avoid similar incidents in the future.
