Heavy Rains and Snow Expected Over Holiday Season; Roads to Remain Challenging
Article:
Bulgaria braces for heavy rainfall and snowfall over the holiday season, with temperatures set to drop, leading to snow in many regions. Snow cover is expected to form in some areas, and road conditions, particularly in mountainous passes, will remain challenging. Today’s maximum temperatures range from 2°C-3°C in the west to 12°C in the east, with gusty southeasterly winds.
In the coming hours, cloud cover will continue to increase, bringing rain first to western, then central Bulgaria by evening. In western regions, rain will gradually transition to snow. A warning for significant rainfall has been issued for southwestern Bulgaria and southern areas of Haskovo and Kardzhali regions. In northwestern regions, where both rain and snow are expected, there’s a risk of ice formation.
Rain will persist through the night, reaching eastern Bulgaria around midnight. Temperatures will remain varied, with minimums ranging from -1° to 9°C, and maximums between 1° and 13°C. Strong winds will continue, particularly in eastern Bulgaria.
Many areas will continue to see rain, with heavier intensities in eastern regions. Snow will prevail at higher elevations in western Bulgaria, while the Predbalkanic region will see a mix of rain and snow. In the mountains, expect cloudy skies with snowfall and strong winds, with gusts from the south.
The weather will remain windy with heavy, at times intense, rain in many areas over the next few days. As temperatures continue to drop, snow is expected in many western and northern regions. A break in the weather is expected on Saturday.
