Breaking News: Intoxicated Driver Arrested After Causing Multiple-Car Crash in Surabaya
Surabaya – In a shocking turn of events, the driver of a Mercy vehicle involved in a chain-reaction crash at Pakuwon City, leading to a major traffic jam along Jalan Raya Kenjeran, has been apprehended. The suspect, identified as Septian Uki Wijaya (38), a resident of Tambak Arum, admitted to causing the accident and expressed remorse in a video circulating online.
In the video, Septian revealed that he had consumed alcohol before getting behind the wheel. When asked about his drinking, he candidly replied, "I only drank Bintang beer, Bintang beer, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, sir, please punish me, sir."
Moreover, Septian acknowledged his wrongdoing and vowed to accept full responsibility for his actions. "I’ll bear the blame for my mistakes. I’m responsible, I’m responsible, I’m sorry if there are any deaths," he confessed.
Confirming Septian’s intoxicated state, Chief of the East Java Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKBP Arif Fazlurrahman, revealed that the suspect’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.77 mg/L, indicating a loss of control over his motor functions, reduced perception, and impaired judgment.
Currently, Septian is in custody at the Surabaya Police Headquarters, awaiting further interrogation once he has sobered up. The investigation into the appropriate charge and penalty continues.
Earlier today at around 3:50 PM WIB, the multiple-car crash occurred on Jalan Raya Kenjeran, causing gridlock in both directions for over a kilometer. Four vehicles, including an Avanza that ended up in the river, a Grand Livina that narrowly avoided the same fate, and a severely damaged Brio, were involved in the collision. Two motorcycles were also affected.
The Mercy vehicle fled the scene after causing the accident, but the driver, Septian Uki Wijaya, was eventually arrested and will now face the consequences of his reckless and irresponsible actions.
