A severe fire incident occurred in a block of flats in Sofia, with multiple casualties requiring hospitalization. The fire, which started in an apartment on the sixth floor of a residential building in the ‘Ovcha Kupel 2’ district, left several people gashed and injured.

Emergency medical services, firefighters, and police were swiftly dispatched to the scene. A total of seven individuals were admitted to Pirigov Hospital, including two adult men, a 39-year-old woman, 7-year-old twins, and an 80-year-old woman. Additionally, a 90-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition and is currently under intensive care, awaiting surgery in the following days.

Causes and Aftermath

The fire was caused by a lit candle in an elderly resident’s home. The incident was reported at 10:45 AM on Monday, prompting the immediate response of three fire engines, two water tanker trucks, and police units. All residents of the affected block were evacuated safely.

An eyewitness recounted, "I was lying in bed when I noticed smoke entering the apartment. I realized the fire was coming from my neighbors’ place. I grabbed the fire extinguisher from my car, but the flames were too large to handle."

Neighbors have reported that the electricity and water supplies were shut off due to damaged pipes caused by the heat.
