Norwegian police have taken into custody an 18-year-old man, suspecting him of making threats and displaying a knife and a toy gun. The teenager is now being held in remand detention, according to a Tuesday night statement from the police.
The suspect was apprehended following a domestic incident earlier today, where he allegedly made threats and produced the knife and toy gun. Neighbors reported the disturbance to the police, who responded promptly and secured the scene.
"Given the seriousness of the threats and the weapons involved, even if one was a replica, we believed it necessary to detain the suspect," said a police spokesperson. "The safety of the public and the people in the immediate vicinity is our top priority."
The 18-year-old is expected to appear before a judge for a remand hearing within the next 24 hours. The police are urging anyone with further information about the incident to come forward.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges.
