Russia Accuses NATO of Using Moldova as Logistics Hub for Ukraine
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has implicated NATO in using Moldova as a logistics center for supplies to the Ukrainian army, as reported by BTA News. Moscow asserts that the alliance is striving to move its military infrastructure closer to Russian borders.
Spokesperson Maria Zakharova, at the ministry’s weekly briefing, emphasized that a significant portion of Moldova’s population does not support the country’s potential joining of NATO. She also noted an increase in arms transfers to Moldova in recent months, further bolstering Russia’s suspicions about the alliance’s intentions.
Moldova, a small landlocked country, has found itself in the geopolitical crosshairs due to its strategic location between Russia and NATO member Romania. While Moldova has not expressed an official desire to join NATO, the alliance has been providing military assistance and training to the country.
This development comes amidst escalating tensions between Russia and the West over Ukraine, with Russia amassing troops near the Ukrainian border. NATO, in response, has bolstered its defensive posture and pledged continued support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
