Headline: Police turnover sparks probe into alleged extortion at Jakarta’s Djakarta Warehouse Project 2024
Article:
In a significant shake-up, Jakarta’s Police Chief Irjen Karyoto has overseen the transfer of 34 officers from the drug unit, following allegations of extortion targeting international attendees of the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) 2024 in Jakarta.
The transfers, ordered through Telegram ST/429/XII/KEP.2024 on December 25, 2024, see officers of varying ranks – from Police Commissioners to Non-Commissioned Officers – temporarily assigned to the Police Memorial in Jakarta while the investigation unfolds.
The move comes in the wake of reports that attendees from Malaysia had been subjected to extortionate tactics by members of the unit. The transferred officers, accused of being involved in the case, include:
-
Commissioned Officers:
- 8 Police Commissioners (AKBP)
- 9 Police Captains (Kapten)
- 2 Police Lieutenants (Letnan)
- Non-Commissioned Officers:
- 3 Senior Brigadiers (Brigadir)
- 5 Brigadiers
- 4 Corporals (Bripka/Briptu)
- 2 Police Sergeants (Aipda/Aipbri)
The turnover, confirmed by the Capital City Police’s Public Relations Department, highlights authorities’ determination to address alleged misconduct within the unit.
