The unusual situation, occurring around 11:20 PM on December 24, 2024, was not an isolated incident but part of a series of vandalisms targeting the building’s infrastructure.
The Act of Vandalism
Wielding makeshift weapons, two unidentified men gained access to the building’s internet cables and deliberately severed them, according to eye-witnesses who spoke to NOVA. One of the individuals, later identified as Kalin, residing on the third floor, was recognized by a neighbor. The second suspect’s name was given as Ludmila. The men were caught on camera carrying out the act.
But the disruption didn’t end there. The following morning, at around 4:50 AM on December 25, the building’s security camera was also vandalized. The residents, fearing for their safety, had previously agreed to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) to monitor the building’s entrances and exits. The victim who reported the incident to the police estimates damages to be around 170 BGN (approximately 87 EUR).
A Pattern of Destruction
This isn’t the first time Kalin has allegedly targeted the building’s infrastructure. A few months ago, he was caught on camera stealing a security camera from the basement by tampering with the building’s entrance lock. The resident affected by this recent incident has lodged two complaints with the police: one for the damage to the internet cables and another for the destroyed security camera.
Residents’ Concerns and Financial Burden
Residents of the building, who initially contacted NOVA, expressed their concern over the recurring incidents, with one victim voicing apprehensions about their safety. While the internet service provider will cover the repair costs for the severed cable, the building’s residents will have to foot the bill for the damages, which are estimated at around 170 BGN (87 EUR).
This developing story serves as a stark reminder of the importance of collective vigilance and community cooperation in ensuring residential safety and security, particularly during holidays when vulnerabilities may be exploited.
