Progress in Influenza Vaccination Advances in Angostura, Mocorito and Salvador Alvarado
The influenza vaccination campaign is proceeding swiftly in the municipalities of Angostura, Mocorito, and Salvador Alvarado, with widespread acceptance from the local population, as reported by Julio César López Ramos, head of the Health Jurisdiction No. III.
Understanding Influenza
Influenza is an infectious disease caused by viruses that target the body’s respiratory tract, often confused with common cold or seasonal flu. Unlike the latter, influenza can spread rapidly year-round through contact with infected individuals.
Prevention: The Power of Vaccination
López Ramos highlighted the positive response from the local population regarding influenza vaccination. The campaign, which began in October and has a target of administering 13,173 doses by March 2025, has already achieved an 84.9% completion rate, with 11,186 doses administered by December 26.
High-risk groups, including children aged 6 months and above, adults over 60, and those with conditions like hypertension and diabetes, are prioritized for the vaccine.
The Importance of Influenza Vaccination
Vaccination is crucial as influenza viruses can vary. Notably, the A virus affects both humans and animals, while the B virus is exclusive to humans, C is mild and believed not to cause epidemics, and D affects livestock.
Symptoms of influenza may include fever, sore throat, nasal congestion, muscle aches, headaches, and fatigue.
