Bulgarian Driver with Over €17,000 in Fines Docked for Reckless Driving
A Slichen driver has amassed fines totaling over €17,000 for persistent traffic violations, according to Commissioner Dimitar Kikoyov, head of the "Security Police." The motorist has 45 convictions for speeding and has had their driver’s license revoked multiple times since 2001.
In three separate instances, the driver’s license was withdrawn. On one occasion, a foreign driver’s license was presented. Now, another license suspension is imminent, with the final order dated December 18. Commissioner Kikoyov explained how the problematic driver legally continues to drive.
"The issue is that after six months, once the fine is paid, he can retake the test and regain his driving privileges," Kikoyov said.
Since 2009, the driver has accrued points totaling 17,275 Bulgarian Levs ( roughly €9,200). Of this amount, 8,300 Levs (around €4,400) have been paid, leaving 8,900 Levs (approximately €4,800) unpaid, all from 2022 onward.
The police did not disclose the driver’s name but urged drivers to familiarize themselves with the rules regarding points system and license suspensions. The driver in question has had a total of 168 points deducted while operating a vehicle.
