Storm ‘General’ Aids Ukraine; Further Results Expected Soon – Specialist
Ukraine’s Armed Forces spokesman, Dmitry Pletenchuk, has hinted at more significant outcomes as harsh weather conditions continue to batter Russian-occupied Crimea, causing substantial damage to defenses around the controversial Kerch Strait Bridge.
Bridge’s Barrier in Bad Shape
The bridge’s barrier, often referred to as ‘Putin’s bridge‘, is reported to be in dire condition due to recent storms. With heavy weather season still ongoing, at least for another 2-3 months, Russian forces face further challenges in maintaining the bridge’s integrity.
Pletenchuk, speaking on the UA Razom all-Ukrainian telethon, confirmed these developments while emphasizing the need for verification. He noted that nature’s interference, notably storms, has severely impacted the barriers, rendering them ineffective.
"Given the season’s dynamic weather conditions, particularly the Kерченский пролив (Kerch Strait)’s turbulent nature, significant damage to the barriers is expected," Pletenchuk said. "Russia‘s attempts to fortify the area seems to have been in vain."
Russia’s Fortification Efforts
Earlier this year, Russia had attempted to install ‘transformer towers’ and deploy advanced defense systems like the Pantsir-S1M in a bid to safeguard the bridge. However, these measures appear to have been insufficient in the face of nature’s onslaught.
Previously, Ukrainian partisans had reported that the bridge was in dire need of repairs following Ukrainian military strikes. They suggested that certain structural elements had degraded significantly.
