Headline: Residents in Bulgaria – ConnollyCove”>Pleven Stage Fourth Consecutive Week of Protests Against Severe Water Restrictions
Bulgaria’s Pleven has seen another wave of resident-driven protests this week, fueled by persistent severe water restrictions throughout the city, bTV reported. This marked the fourth instance of residents, equipped with banners, whistles, and signs, blocking streets within the past month.

Locals fear that a recurrence of water shortages for 16 hours daily—like the horror of last month—is on the horizon unless prompt action to find water resources and replace antiquated infrastructure ensues. Water access has not yet been restored to regular conditions, heightening residents’ unease and frustrations.
In an impassioned opinion, Pleven local, CVetko stated, "To bear the costs of one of Bulgaria’s dearest waters with over 70-80% lost; it’s no less than an act of genocide against mid-size cities, considering the strain put on not only the municipality, but satellite settlements too, for they share a similar drought-induced fate.”
Adding to mounting worries, demonstration mastermind Borislav reiterated, “Thus far, the situation doesn’t show promising results. Plans for deepening wellsprings and constructing drainage pipelines along River Vitos at Biolare lack substantial progress." Ivo, having travelled from Rusé, echoed supportive sentiment, observing that, “These protests boast a worthy cause. Pleven residents lack proper water provision and, just as in major metropolises like Sofia, this issue begs swift political reaction.”
Story continues: Community leaders rally as water pressure grows
Less than a fortnight since residents’ calls to action—such as community representatives’ request to the ministry to expedite initiatives to battle Pleven’s impending water emergency and to deploy necessary state resources—a new pressure seems to surge amongst the crowd, with chatter of further impeding through highway blockages in the wind.
