Major-General Gatot Tri Suryanta Appointed Police Chief of South Sumatra

Brigjen Pol Gatot Tri Suryanta Appointed as New Sumbar Police Chief

Sumatra Baratus, Indonesia — The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has announced its latest moves in the high-ranking officer shuffle, with Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo appointing Brigjen Pol Gatot Tri Suryanta as the new Sumatra Baratus (Sumbar) Police Chief. He succeeds Irjen Pol Suharyono, who has retired.

The decision, outlined in Kapolri Telegram Letter Number ST/2775/XII/KEP/2024 dated December 29, 2024, signifies another rotation in the Sumbar police hierarchy. Brigjen Pol Gatot Tri Suryanta, previously serving as the Director of Police Corps Education and Training (Itwasum), steps into the role vacated by Irjen Pol Suharyono’s retirement.

Kombes Pol Dwi Sulistyawan, S.Ik, the Public Relations Division Head of Sumbar Police, confirmed the change, stating, "Yes, it’s true. There’s a mutation and rotation of positions, which is a standard practice in Polri. It’s a way to regenerate and adapt to the increasingly complex demands of society."

Before his new appointment, Brigjen Pol Gatot Tri Suryanta led Itwasum, while Irjen Pol Suharyono was reassigned as a high-ranking police officer in Sumbar in anticipation of his retirement.

The transition marks a new chapter in Sumbar’s police leadership, as Brigjen Pol Gatot Tri Suryanta takes the helm to navigate the province’s evolving security landscape.
