New Year’s Lunch Turns Violent: 72-Year-Old Man Shoots Own Son
A New Year’s family lunch took a violent turn when a 72-year-old retired man allegedly shot his 41-year-old son in the head following an argument at their home in Villa Adela, Córdoba. The incident occurred around noon on January 1, 2025, at a residence on Lagunilla Street, where the family had gathered to celebrate the new year.
The retired man, who owns the house, got into a heated argument with his son, the cause of which remains under investigation. Tensions escalated to the point where the man reportedly grabbed a rifle and shot his son in the head.
According to La Voz del Interior newspaper, the bullet entered through the son’s right parietal bone, near the temple. Neighbors who heard the gunshot called the police, who arrived to find the victim conscious but requiring urgent medical attention.
The son was transported to the Hospital de Urgencias de Córdoba. Local reports indicate that the victim is schizophrenic and had been living in a home with a history of family violence.
Police seized a .22-caliber FM Isleño rifle with a loaded magazine and four additional cartridges from the house. The retiree was taken into custody and will face questioning in the coming hours.
