Headline: Unnamed Man Pushes 45-Year-Old Joseph Lynskey onto NYC Subway Tracks; Mother Calls it "Miracle" He Survived
Article:
In a horrifying incident that could have turned fatal, a 45-year-old man named Joseph Lynskey was pushed onto the subway tracks of New York City, just moments before an incoming train arrived at the 18th Street station in Chelsea. Miraculously, Lynskey survived the attack, which was caught on security cameras and showed a man in a dark hoodie and cap pushing him without warning as he was looking at his phone.
The attack occurred in the afternoon, with Lynskey being rushed to Bellevue Hospital with critical injuries, including a fractured skull, broken ribs, and a ruptured spleen. Despite being in critical condition initially, his condition has since stabilized. His family has set up a GoFundMe page to cover medical expenses, with over $70,000 raised so far.
Lynskey, a Director of Content and Programming at Gray V, also goes by the moniker DJ "Joe Usher" and has worked on high-profile music projects. Just weeks before the incident, Lynskey was interviewed by BNN Bloomberg about his involvement in creating ambient music for The Times Square Hotel, aimed at providing relaxation in the bustling city atmosphere.
The alleged attacker, Kamel Hawkins, 23, was arrested hours after the incident and charged with attempted murder and assault. Authorities believe the attack was random, as there is no known connection between Hawkins and Lynskey. Hawkins has a history of violent crimes, including assault, harassment, and weapon possession. His father, Shamel Spencer, expressed shock over his son’s actions, attributing them to recent worrying changes in his behavior.
The attack adds to a growing number of violent incidents in the NYC subway system, with the NYPD reporting 24 such cases in 2024 – a 41% increase from the 17 incidents in 2023. Although still relatively infrequent, these occurrences raise concerns and heighten user insecurity.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams condemned the attack on social media, vowing to strengthen security measures to prevent similar incidents. A police officer described Lynskey’s fall between the tracks as a "miracle," stating that he landed perfectly, avoiding further catastrophe.
As Lynskey recovers, his family is grateful for the outpouring of support and continues to advocate for him. They maintain hope for a full recovery, with doctors being optimistic about his prospects. Joseph Lynskey’s miraculous survival serves as a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit in the face of unthinkable adversity.
