Headline: Bulgarian Hospital Investigates Video of Nurses Dancing with Newborns
In a shocking incident, the management of Multiprofile Biomedical Array "Dr. Ivan Seliiminiski" in Sliven, Bulgaria, has initiated an investigation following the publication of a video on social media platforms. The video, which has since gone viral, shows two nurses from the Neonatology Department dancing with newborn babies to pop-folk music.
The incident came to light after users reported seeing the video in various groups on social media. The hospital’s management has condemned the behavior of the nurses, calling it unprofessional and unacceptable. Dr. Tanya Pramatatova, the head of the department, stated, "This is a precedent for us. The video was made without the knowledge of the department’s management and the senior medical nurse. I determine the behaviour of the participants as unprofessional and impermissible."
The hospital has taken immediate action, with one nurse, an obstetrician, having resigned on December 29 for personal reasons. The other, a healthcare assistant with a one-month tenure, will be dismissed on January 6 for her involvement in the video. Dr. Pramatatova reassured that the department strictly adheres to internal rules, the Personal Data Protection Act, and professional standards. "Our neonatology department has a longstanding tradition and reputation," she added.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, and the hospital has assured that such actions will not be tolerated in the future.
One of the nurses featured in the video, who has since resigned, spoke to bTV news. According to her, the video was posted on social media to celebrate her birthday. "I was holding one of the babies while changing him when the music started, and I started dancing with him," said Yanina Mitova. "I told my colleague to delete the video, but she didn’t listen and sent it on Instagram. We didn’t intend to publish the video, and the baby was in excellent condition," Mitova claimed.
Mitova, who had been working in neonatology for three years, submitted her resignation due to personal reasons in December.
This incident has raised serious concerns about professional conduct and patient care, highlighting the need for strict adherence to ethical guidelines and protocols in healthcare settings. As the investigation continues, all eyes are on the hospital’s management, awaiting their final decisions.
