Tragic Kulig Accident: 25-Year-Old Dies After Colliding with Tree While Sledding
A once-fun outing turned tragic for a group of 9-10 adults who organized a kulig (traditional Polish sledding event) on Sunday, January 5, around 5:00 PM. The joyous sledding expedition quickly took a fatal turn when one of the sleds, being towed by a car, collided with a roadside tree.
The impact with the large pine tree was severe, leaving a 25-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. Fellow participants swiftly summoned emergency services, with firefighters, police, and paramedics arriving rapidly at the scene.
Tragically, despite their best efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries. The scene witnessed a race against time, with medical professionals administering CPR until a rapid-response helicopter from the Air Rescue Service arrived. However, the helicopter had to depart empty, as the young man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Early investigation suggests that the driver of the vehicle towing the sleds was sober, raising questions about the speed of the convoy and the possible contributing factors to the fatal accident. Local police and the Opoczno Regional Prosecutor’s Office continue to investigate the incident to determine the cause and fault behind the tragic event.
