Camilo Pedraza, his cousin, shared exclusive details with SEMANA about the final hours they spent together before Noriega’s disappearance.
Noriega, who had arrived in Colombia on December 20 and was set to return to Mexico after exploring several cities across the country, was last seen in the company of Pedraza at a cocktail event in Usaquén. After leaving the venue, Noriega expressed a desire to visit the terrace of BrewPub. Upon leaving BrewPub, Noriega requested a private transportation service through a recognized mobile app, seemingly heading back to his hotel.
Pedraza recalled that Noriega ordered a vehicle through a mobile application and, after it arrived, bid him farewell. "I saw him request the service, and I saw him get into the car," Pedraza commented. The last visible trace of Noriega was a Volkswagen van with tinted windows driving away, despite Pedraza’s attempts to make eye contact with the driver. Since then, Noriega’s whereabouts have remained unknown.
The mystery deepened around 4:00 AM when Noriega’s father tried to contact Pedraza, inquiring about his son’s location. Pedraza, however, did not respond to the first call but reached out to Noriega’s father at 6:30 AM, confirming that Noriega had left for his hotel at 10:53 PM the previous night.
In a frantic search for answers, Noriega’s family attempted to trace the vehicle’s license plate but encountered an obstacle. When they reached out to the transportation app for more information, they were informed that the trip details were confidential between the user and the driver, leaving them none the wiser about Noriega’s potential change of destination or accompaniment.
Adding to the confusion, Noriega began sending disjointed messages throughout the day, claiming to be with friends at Monserrate – a statement that his family disputes, as he allegedly had no friends in Bogotá. The situation grew more complicated when Noriega, seeing his image circulated as a missing person, sent a message claiming he was not lost.
Despite the family’s efforts and the involvement of local authorities, including the Police of Tourism, Sijín, and the Usaquén Police, no clear leads have emerged in Noriega’s case. Pedraza revealed that they had reported him missing at the Institute of Legal Medicine but were still awaiting further action from the relevant authorities.
