Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Welcomes Syrian Interim Foreign Minister
ABU DHABI, UAE — Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received Syrian Interim Government‘s Foreign Minister, Abdulahad Steif, in Abu Dhabi yesterday. The meeting explored ways to strengthen the brotherly relations between the two nations and their people, discussing a range of mutual interests.
The Syrian conflict and current regional developments were among the key topics addressed during the meeting. Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE’s steadfast position supporting Syria‘s sovereignty and independence over all its territories.
"We stand firmly with the Syrian brotherly people and support all regional and international efforts aimed at achieving their aspirations for peace, security, stability, and decent life," Sheikh Abdullah said.
The importance of ensuring all elements of security and stability for the Syrian people to build a prosperous and progressive future was also emphasized.
Attending the meeting from the UAE side were Minister of State for Defense Affairs Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Lana Nusseibeh, and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Economic and Trade Affairs Saeed Mubarak Al Hajri, and the UAE Ambassador to Syria, Hussain Ahmed Al Shuhy.
The Syrian delegation comprised Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Hussein Makhlouf, Minister of Electricity Omar Tabaghi, Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Ghiyath Thamer Diab, and Director general of General Intelligence Anas Ibrahim Khattab.
Sheikh Abdullah welcomed the Syrian Minister and his accompanying delegation, praising their leadership’s efforts to achieve a political solution and restore security and stability in Syria.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi.
