USA: Recall of Cold Medicines from Costco Due to Possible Contamination
Costco has announced a voluntary recall of certain lots of over-the-counter cold medicines due to potential contamination. The affected products are Kirkland Signature Sinus Relief and Kirkland Signature Cold & Flu Relief sold exclusively at Costco warehouses nationwide and online.
The recall was initiated after discovering that the products may have been contaminated with physiological saline, an unapproved substance. While this substance is not harmful, it could alter the effectiveness of the medication, leading to incomplete relief of symptoms.
The recall involves only specific lots, identified by their expiration dates. Products outside these lots are not affected. Customers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to stop using them and return them to any Costco location for a full refund.
This is the second recall of Costco’s non-prescription cold medicine this month. On January 3rd, the company recalled certain lots of Kirkland Signature Sinus Cold & Flu Relief due to the presence of ranitidine, a drug used to treat heartburn and ulcers, which was found in the product’s inactive ingredients.
Costco has stressed that no adverse events have been reported in relation to these recalls. However, the company is committed to ensuring the safety and efficacy of its products and is cooperating fully with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the investigation.
