Family Grants Pardon to Maid Convicted in grisly Murder and Arson Case; Shaves 15 Years off Her Sentence
In a shockingly brutal incident in Ras Al Khaimah, a maid was sentenced to the death penalty after she stabbed her employer to death and set fire to the apartment, killing her seven-month-old baby. However, in an unexpected turn of events, the victim’s family has now granted her a pardon, leading to a significant reduction in her prison term.
The murder took place in 2010 when the African maid began working for a family in Ras Al Khaimah. Less than two months into her job, she brutally attacked her employer, the victim’s mother, in the kitchen. In a frenzied assault, she stabbed the woman 17 times, killing her instantly. After the murder, the maid stole a bag containing money and jewelry before setting the apartment on fire to cover up her crime. Tragically, the resulting blaze claimed the life of the couple’s seven-month-old son.
The maid was initially sentenced to death, but with the recent pardon from the victim’s family, the court has reduced her sentence to 15 years in prison. The family had received Dhs700,000 (approximately USD190,000) as diya (blood money) from the maid’s employer, which led them to show mercy and grant her a pardon.
The horrifying crime shook the nation, serving as a grim reminder of the stark realities that can sometimes mutate behind the closed doors of our homes.
