Bjørnar‘s Fishing Boat Sinks Again, Four Years After Previous Incident

The Fædrelandsvennen reported that the boat began taking in water before disappearing beneath the waves off the coast of Lindesnes. "It was too late," a distraught Bjørnar recounts, "I couldn’t save her."
Bjørnar narrowly escaped with his life. Using a life jacket and a rope, he managed to tether himself to a nearby buoy, survives the icy waters until rescue arrived. He was later flown to a hospital in Stavanger, suffering from hypothermia.
Bjørnar’s fishing boat, ‘Smart initiate’, has a tragic history. In 2017, it caught fire and sank off the coast of Denmark. "It’s been tough," says Bjørnar, "But I’ve rebuilt it, and we’ve been back at sea."
This latest sinking has left Bjørnar devastated, not just by the loss of his vessel, but also the potential impact on his livelihood. "Fishing is my life," he says, "I don’t know what I’ll do now."
The cause of the sinking is under investigation, but Bjørnar believes it might be linked to a power outage that struck the vessel earlier in the day. The NRK reports that Bjørnar had recently taken out a loan to finance the boat’s renovation.
The local fishing community has rallied around Bjørnar, offering their support. "He’s a resilient guy," one fellow fisherman says, "If anyone can bounce back, it’s him."
