Drunk Driver Arrested for Driving in Wrong Direction on Hemus Motorway
A 76-year-old man was arrested Wednesday evening after driving his car in the wrong direction on the Hemus Motorway, according to a report by bTV.
The incident occurred around 6:15 PM when emergency services received a call that a light vehicle was traveling against traffic on the motorway, heading towards Varna from Shumen.
The car was stopped by a team of ‘P népula’ ("P ponto") near a gas station close to Novi Pazar. Police officers found the driver, a 76-year-old man, in an obviously intoxicated state. A breathalyzer test revealed his blood alcohol content to be 2.08 promiles.
The man refused to provide a blood sample for analysis and was subsequently taken into custody for 24 hours at the Shumen Police Department. The vehicle was impounded, and a pre-trial investigation was launched.
