CLEARWATER, Fla. — Sophomore Brooke Bennett’s sixth-inning triple scored Lauren Faulkner, but the Longwood softball team ultimately fell to Boston College 3-1 on Sunday, closing out play at the NFCA DI Leadoff Classic.

Boston College’s Abby Ptak drove in all three runs for the Eagles, with a two-run single in the first inning and a solo home run in the fifth off Longwood’s Maggie Chapin. Chapin pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and recording eight strikeouts.
Longwood head coach Dr. Megan Brown emphasized the importance of consistent effort, stating, “Great process leads to great results. Right now, our process isn’t consistent so the results aren’t what we aim for.”
Chapin successfully navigated a bases-loaded situation in the third inning and left two runners stranded in the fourth. Longwood threatened again in the seventh inning after a single by Sarah Terrell.
