A “Completely Unprovoked” Act
Jahkai Jack, a resident of Mount Dennis, was fatally shot on the night of June 7, 2025, in the area of Emmett Avenue and Jane Street, near Weston Road. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found Jack with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported to a trauma centre but later died. Police stated that Jack was with friends when an altercation occurred, and a suspect discharged a handgun, striking the teen. The suspect then fled on foot and remains unidentified.
At the time, Det.-Sgt. Phillip Campbell emphasized that Jack had no connection to gangs or criminal activity, describing the shooting as “a completely unprovoked act of violence against a 15-year-old boy.” Investigators believe as many as 10 people may have witnessed the attack and appealed for the suspect to surrender.
“What you did devastated a family,” Campbell said in July, directly addressing the suspect. The killing was Toronto’s 14th homicide of 2025 and deeply impacted the Mount Dennis community.
