A Houston family and a local police officer have received a measure of justice following the sentencing of Michael Perez for his role in a violent home invasion. Perez was found guilty of Aggravated Robbery with a Deadly Weapon and sentenced to 45 years in prison on February 25, 2026.

The crime occurred in September 2024 in northwest Houston. Perez and two accomplices targeted a home by posing as food delivery workers. After gaining access, two of the men forced their way inside while a third acted as a lookout.
Inside the home, the intruders zip-tied a mother and terrorized her children while demanding money. Houston Police Officer Scott Durfee and his partner arrived at the scene within minutes, responding to the neighbor’s call. Officer Durfee was shot as he and his partner entered the home and discovered the woman restrained.
