2026 당너머 정월대보름 행사: 7년 만에 운당2리 달집 불씨 재점화

The 2026 Dangneomeo Jeongwol Daeboreum event will be held in Undang 2-ri, Sojeong-myeon, Sejong City. This event, which gathers wishes under the moonlight, will be revived after 7 years. The location is the Undang 2-ri village hall. The time is 6:30 PM on March 2nd.

This event marks a return to a village tradition that was paused in 2019. Residents are directly responsible for the preparation and operation of the festival. The festival committee explained that the desire to preserve tradition has brought people back together.

The event will be attended by Sejong Mayor Choi Min-ho and City Councilor Kim Hak-seo. Residents and local functional organizations will as well participate. The event will commence with a Moksinje ritual, followed by the Daljip burning and folk games, culminating in a harmony event.

The Moksinje is a traditional practice unique to Undang 2-ri. Residents clean the village’s communal well, symbolizing the removal of negative energy. They then offer a ritual at the 450-year-old Donggu tree, praying for the peace and unity of the community.

The Daljip burning is a central ritual to pray for a bountiful year. Residents place wish papers inside the Daljip. After offering a ritual, the Daljip is set ablaze, symbolizing the burning away of misfortune and uniting hearts.

This year’s 2026 Dangneomeo Jeongwol Daeboreum event will also include 30,000 wish cards from the 2025 Sejong Light Tree Festival. By burning these cards together, the event will express wishes for the safety and harmony of not only the residents of Undang 2-ri but also all citizens of Sejong City. The 2025 Sejong Light Tree Festival was held from November 22nd to December 31st at the south plaza of Eungdari Bridge and Central Park.

Jeongwol Daeboreum is a traditional holiday celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month. Customs such as Dalmaji and Daljip burning have been passed down. It also symbolizes the beginning of the farming season. This background further emphasizes the significance of the 2026 Dangneomeo Jeongwol Daeboreum event.

This year’s full moon is also attracting attention due to astronomical phenomena. The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute has predicted a total lunar eclipse on March 3rd. Information about the maximum eclipse time is also available in the institute’s press release. It is a year when people are even more inclined to look up at the moon.

Safety measures are also being prepared at the event site. Fire extinguishers will be placed at the venue and fire personnel and equipment will be deployed. Residual embers will be immediately cleared after the Daljip burning. The management of embers is considered crucial to the success of the event.

The festival committee emphasized the significance of the event’s revival after 7 years. Committee Chairman Kim Seong-tae stated that it will be a meaningful time to pray for the fulfillment of citizens’ wishes. Sojeong-myeon Mayor Kim Gwang-tae also stated that the event is being resumed thanks to the residents’ will. The 2026 Dangneomeo Jeongwol Daeboreum event is a place where tradition meets the present. The wishes gathered under the moonlight will become the flame that illuminates the village’s future.
