Geraldine Rae “Gerry” MacKay of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, at the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit following a brief illness. She was born in Amherst, the daughter of the late Raymond and Jean (Smith) Weldon.
A Life Dedicated to Nursing and Family
Gerry dedicated her career to nursing, graduating as a registered nurse from the Aberdeen School of Nursing in 1964. She initially worked at Moncton Hospital before returning to the Aberdeen Hospital, where she served in the Maternity / Pediatric Ward. Beyond her professional life, Gerry was known for her creative pursuits and devotion to her family.
She found joy in painting, tole painting, and crafting, and was often sought after for her sewing skills. Gerry and her husband, Tom, shared a love for spending time at their family cottage at Lochaber Lake, creating lasting memories with loved ones. They also enjoyed spontaneous drives without a set destination.
Remembering Gerry’s Legacy
Gerry is survived by her daughter, Patricia Crocket; her son, Craig; her grandchildren, Laura (Seth Burrill), Jamie, Jakob, and Josh; her brother-in-law, Bobby (Wendy); one niece; one nephew; and numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Tom, and her son-in-law, Jim.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, at 11 am at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, located at 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Burial is planned for the spring.
