New Delhi – Domestic cooking gas prices have risen across India, effective Saturday, March 7. The cost of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder will increase by ₹60 nationwide, according to sources cited by the ANI news agency.
Regional Price Increases
In Delhi, the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder will rise from ₹853 to ₹913. Mumbai will see an increase from ₹852.50 to ₹912.50. Kolkata residents will pay ₹930, up from ₹879, and the price in Chennai will increase from ₹868.50 to ₹928.50. These revised rates are effective immediately.
Commercial Cylinder Costs Also Rise
Businesses relying on LPG will also be affected. The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder is increasing by ₹115. In Delhi, the price will move from ₹1,768.50 to ₹1,883. Mumbai will see a rise to ₹1,835, from ₹1,720.50. Kolkata’s price will climb to ₹1,990, up from ₹1,875.50, and Chennai will see an increase to ₹2,043.50 from ₹1,929.
This price revision marks the first major change in domestic LPG prices since April 2025. The increase is expected to impact households and commercial establishments, including hotels and restaurants.
Government Assurances Amid Global Concerns
The price hike comes as tensions in West Asia raise concerns about potential disruptions to global oil routes. Union minister for petroleum and natural gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, has stated, “Our priority is to ensure the availability of affordable and sustainable fuel for our citizens, and we are doing it comfortably. There is no shortage of energy in India, and there is no cause of worry for our energy consumers.”
Indian Oil Corporation has also dismissed rumors of petrol and diesel shortages, affirming that India has adequate fuel stocks and functioning supply networks. “India has sufficient fuel stocks, and supply and distribution networks are functioning normally. IndianOil is committed to maintaining uninterrupted fuel supply across the country,” the company stated.
Government sources indicate India has been diversifying its crude oil import sources. In February, approximately 20% of India’s crude oil imports, or roughly 1.04 million barrels per day, came from Russia. LPG refineries have also been directed to increase production, and imports from the United States began in January under a one-year contract for 2.2 million tonnes of LPG from the US Gulf Coast for 2026.
