Amsterdam’s nightlife scene is experimenting with a latest approach to affordability. Four clubs – Garage Noord, Nachbar, Skatecafe and Radio Radio – have launched a joint initiative called the Nachtpas, a monthly subscription service offering unlimited entry for €24.50.
Rising Costs and Changing Habits
Moktar Nabil, owner of Garage Noord and one of the Nachtpas’s initiators, explained the motivation behind the program. “We see that everything is just getting more expensive, and that’s why people are going out less,” he said. This sentiment is echoed by young adults in the city, with some stating that the cost of clubbing has develop into prohibitive. One individual noted they no longer go out at all, while another limits their visits to the summer months.
The Nachtpas has already garnered some positive responses. One man commented, “I can miss that amount, yes. What I’m saying is, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.”
A Two-Tiered System
Club owners appear willing to adjust pricing to attract local customers. According to Nabil, “We are all really willing to give something up and understand that you request a little less for your ticketing.” However, the clubs intend to maintain standard pricing for tourists.
The participating clubs are currently evaluating the initial response to the Nachtpas and are maintaining a waiting list for potential future releases.
