President Prabowo Subianto conducted a working visit to Miangas, Talaud, North Sulawesi, on Saturday, May 9, 2026. The visit took place immediately following the President’s attendance at the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines.

During a meeting with residents at SMK 2 Talaud, President Prabowo noted that he is the second president to visit Miangas, following the 7th President, Joko Widodo. He acknowledged that President Jokowi had previously inaugurated the Miangas airport and stated his intention to maintain the airport and other local facilities, including the community health center (Puskesmas).

“We are grateful; I am the second president to have visited Miangas, Mr. Jokowi went before,” Prabowo said.

The visit highlighted critical infrastructure needs in remote areas. President Prabowo revealed that the Health Minister had informed him that some community health centers had not been repaired since the era of the second president, Soeharto. In response, the President pledged to repair all Puskesmas across Indonesia immediately.

Beyond healthcare, the President announced a broad commitment to educational infrastructure. He stated that the government intends to renovate every school in Indonesia within a timeframe of two to three years.

Official Delegation and Reception

President Prabowo arrived via presidential aircraft, accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra and Foreign Minister Sugiono Wijaya. Upon arrival, he was received by a delegation of ministers, including:

  • Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Health
  • Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Minister of Defense
  • Dody Hanggodo, Minister of Public Works
  • Meutya Hafid, Minister of Communication and Digital

After interacting with airport officials and members of the TNI, the President departed the airport in a vehicle with Indonesian plates. Foreign Minister Sugiono confirmed that the President would attend several scheduled agendas in Miangas before returning to Jakarta later that day.

Significance and Outlook

The President’s visit underscores a strategic focus on maintaining and improving infrastructure in outlying regions. By linking current goals to the work of previous administrations, the current government signals a continuity in development, particularly regarding transport and health hubs.

Looking ahead, the administration may move to implement a nationwide audit and renovation schedule for schools and health centers to meet the President’s stated two-to-three-year goal for educational facilities.
