Two Greek American tourists were stabbed and wounded by an assailant Tuesday morning near the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The attacker, who appeared to be suffering from psychological issues, was detained at the scene. Both victims were hospitalized, and the historic site remains open to the public.
Attack Near the Acropolis Museum
The stabbing occurred on a pedestrian street located at the foot of the Acropolis hill, near the entrance to the Acropolis Museum.
Authorities reported that the woman sustained light injuries to her leg, while the man was more seriously wounded in the arm. Both victims were transported to a hospital by ambulance. Despite the proximity of the violence to one of the world’s most visited archaeological sites, CBS News confirmed that the Acropolis remained open and continued to operate as usual following the incident.
Police Response and Suspect Status
The attacker was detained by police at the scene of the stabbing. While the suspect’s identity has not been publicly released, law enforcement officials stated that he appeared to be suffering from psychological problems.
