Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced the construction of two new underpasses in Islamabad and mandated the immediate establishment of a fully functional Rescue 1122 emergency response system. The directives were issued during a meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Headquarters, where officials reviewed ongoing and upcoming development projects across the city.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Traffic Management
According to the Interior Minister, construction on the Kashmir Chowk Underpass and the Faisal Mosque Underpass is scheduled to begin next month. These projects are intended to improve traffic flow and provide better facilities for the public. Additionally, Naqvi emphasized the need for strict adherence to project timelines, specifically ordering that the Islamabad Expressway Service Road Project be completed within its stipulated timeframe.
Institutional Emergency Response and Revenue Models
The Interior Minister expressed strong displeasure regarding the current status of emergency services in the capital, noting that Islamabad lacks a fully functional Rescue 1122 system. To address this, he directed officials to take urgent measures to establish the Capital Emergency Services as a fully operational institution. Following the completion of necessary legal formalities, work is expected to commence on four new emergency centers.
Beyond physical infrastructure, the meeting focused on the long-term financial health of the CDA. Naqvi instructed authorities to develop a sustainable revenue model aimed at achieving financial self-sufficiency. He stated that the institution’s financial strength is as vital as its development projects and ordered officials to prioritize practical, viable initiatives that generate consistent income for the authority.
