According to Now News reporting on August 8, 2026, KMB has launched specialized pet bus services to transport senior dogs to pet-friendly dining establishments, aiming to improve accessibility for aging animals. The initiative, organized in collaboration with an animal shelter, pairs senior dogs—many over the age of 10—with volunteer handlers for a day trip featuring scenic transit and restaurant socialization.
Senior Dog Bus Service Expands Pet-Friendly Transit Access
Aging rescue dogs require specialized care and socialization opportunities, according to shelter operators. The recent KMB pet bus deployment accommodated eight small dogs, most of them exceeding 10 years of age, traveling from a rescue facility to a designated pet-friendly restaurant.
During the transit, volunteers supported older canines exhibiting travel anxiety. A 16-year-old dog required a volunteer to hold it throughout the route due to mild nervousness, while other passengers remained calm while viewing scenery.
Onboard Amenities and Safety Gear
KMB Customer Experience Manager Ng Ka-man stated that the transit vehicles feature dedicated pet supply kits to manage unexpected situations during travel. According to Ng, the onboard kits contain cleaning tools, absorbent pads, wet wipes, and disinfection equipment to ensure quick access for handlers if unexpected incidents occur inside the vehicle cabin.
Following the bus ride, the group transitioned to private vehicles to complete the journey to the dining venue.
Shelter Intentions and Future Operations
Ivy, a representative from the animal rescue organization Ah Kung House, emphasized the importance of exposing senior dogs to broader environments. According to Ivy, because an animal’s remaining lifespan cannot be predicted and unexpected health issues can arise at any age, the primary goal is to create positive memories during their remaining time and allow them to experience the world.
Following this initial excursion, organizers plan to continue integrating senior animals into external community events whenever possible.
KMB Pet Bus Schedule and Eligibility Rules
