According to a fan account cited by The Hollywood Reporter, a custodian cleaning the area reported that a woman had kicked candles around the memorial and used shards of broken glass to scratch the surface before flowers left by mourners were stolen.
The Hollywood Historic Trust, which maintains the landmark, posted on Instagram that workers quickly removed remaining tributes on Monday morning to execute the scheduled fix. Crews worked on Hollywood Boulevard to repair the cavity and replace the damaged sections, with the restored star set to cure and polish by Friday.
