Two foreign nationals were arrested in Erasmia, west of Pretoria, after police allegedly uncovered a large-scale clandestine drug manufacturing laboratory producing an estimated 800,000 Mandrax tablets a day, according to law enforcement officials.
Intelligence-Led Raid in Erasmia
Deputy National Commissioner for Policing Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili stated that the operation resulted from intelligence-led policing. Crime Intelligence monitored activities at the property on smallholdings and farms used as bases for illicit drug manufacturing before operational teams, working alongside the Hawks, moved in to execute the raid. Mosikili noted that such properties are no longer safe havens for criminal organisations.
“What we have uncovered here is a suspected Mandrax manufacturing laboratory,” Mosikili said, adding that dismantling the facility disrupted a network capable of flooding communities with hundreds of thousands of tablets daily.
