A passion project for Snyder, The Last Photograph is based on an original story from the filmmaker, directed from a screenplay by Kurt Johnstad, who co-wrote Snyder’s previous two features, 2023’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire and 2024’s Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver. The Last Photograph follows retired DEA agent Ethan Black, played by Scottish actor Stuart Martin. A plot synopsis for the film reads, An ex-DEA agent searches South American mountains for his murdered diplomat siblings’ children, aided by a junkie photographer who saw the killers, confronting past demons as reality blurs in remote wilderness.
The film stars Stuart Martin and Fra Fee as Ethan and Joe, alongside Costanza Andrade, Marlon Moreno, Quique Mendoza, Pedro Calvo-Anca, Ed Hughes, Mia Calvo, Gustavo Angarita, Jackie Kay, and José Restrepo.
Airy 265 Medium Format Camera
The film was shot across Iceland, Colombia, and Los Angeles throughout 2025. Notably, this is also Snyder’s first independent film, as no studio or streamer was involved in the production. The movie was produced by Snyder and Deborah Snyder’s The Stone Quarry and Gianni Nunnari’s Hollywood Gang Productions. Snyder also served as cameraman and cinematographer on the project, and he revealed he shot the film with the Airy 265 medium format camera.
