New Traffic Management System unveiled at Sofia Airport Terminal 2
Starting Jan 9, Sofia Airport’s Terminal 2 has introduced a new traffic management system, aiming to enhance organization, safety, and service quality for passengers and visitors. The system, operated by "SOF Connect," is designed to prevent unauthorized parking and congestion while offering flexible and convenient parking solutions.
Free Parking and Dynamic Pricing
The new system offers 10 free minutes for light vehicle parking. After the free period, the tariff structure is as follows:
- 11 to 30 minutes: 10 BGN
- 31 to 59 minutes: 15 BGN
- Every 60 minutes: 20 BGN
Vehicles with disabled passengers are granted a 30-minute free extension. Bus transfers during the winter season, until the end of March, can use a 30-minute free parking slot at the ‘Kiss & Ride’ zone or Parking P8, with a one-hour interval between free entries. Overshooting the free limit incurs the following charges:
- 31 to 59 minutes: 30 BGN
- Every 60 minutes: 40 BGN
Kiss & Ride Zone
A ‘Kiss & Ride’ zone is introduced for quick passenger drop-off and pick-up, with a 10-minute free parking limit before the terminal building. This zone is exclusively for short stays, with a one-hour interval between free entries, preventing traffic blockades.
Public Transport and Parking Alternatives
Public transport has unlimited free access to Terminal 2. Parking is not allowed in the ‘Kiss & Ride’ zone or nearby streets. Sofia Airport offers three parking lots with varying price categories suitable for longer stays.
Enhancing Passenger Experience
The new system objectives align with "SOF Connect’s" continuous efforts to ensure a safer, more comfortable, and better-organized travel experience at Terminal 2. The controlled access system is based on European standards and proven models used at airports like Munich, Amsterdam, and Rome.
