Valle Fértil has been grappling with water scarcity and agropecuaria issues since 2019, prompting the municipality to declare an emergency. This year, the Secretariat of the Environment has stepped up its efforts to mitigate the environmental impact in the department, with a particular focus on the Dique San Agustín. The reservoir has witnessed changes in water conditions that have adversely affected its flora and fauna.
The deteriorating water quality and disrupted ecosystem have not only impacted fish communities but also threatened the broader natural environment that relies on the dike. To address this situation, the Secretariat of the Environment has implemented several measures, including lifting the fishing ban in October and installing a sustainable, solar-powered airation system designed by MD Soluciones Sustentables.
