U.K.-based AI studio Particle6 announced Monday that it is developing a feature film titled Misaligned starring Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated actor. The comedy-drama, described as a coming-of-age story, will utilize a hybrid production model combining traditional film professionals with AI specialists to explore themes of identity and artificial intelligence.
The Plot and Setting of the ‘Tillyverse’
The film takes place in a surreal digital environment called the Tillyverse, located within the Cloud. In this setting, Tilly Norwood is depicted as an AI being who possesses no physical body, childhood, or lived experiences of her own. Instead, her character has access to the backstories and memories of other humans.

The narrative pivots when a rogue bot from the dark web convinces Tilly to abandon her programmed guardrails. This catalyst leads the character to develop human-like ambitions, impulses, and desires.
“The film will absolutely be funny, chaotic and self-aware — very Tilly. But underneath it, there’s something deeper about identity, performance and our very human fears around AI. And yes, art will most definitely be imitating life.
Particle6’s Hybrid Production Model
Particle6 is positioning Misaligned not as a fully automated product, but as a collaboration. The studio intends to employ traditional directors, writers, and editors alongside AI specialists. The production will integrate AI training and mentorship directly into the filmmaking workflow.

Eline van der Velden, a former actor and comedian, has stated that the goal is to prove that AI can support high-end narrative cinema when paired with human judgment. She told NBC News that this hybrid approach could include using human actors for performance or motion capture to merge human expertise with AI tools.
“AI can support premium narrative filmmaking, but only with substantial amounts of human craft, skill, judgment and time. That’s not a limitation of the technology. That’s the point.
Industry Backlash and the SAG-AFTRA Conflict
The announcement of the film follows a period of intense friction between Particle6 and the entertainment industry. Tilly Norwood was unveiled to the public in 2025 after the studio developed roughly 2,000 iterations of the AI tool. Controversy peaked when van der Velden suggested the AI creation might sign with a talent agency, a move that sparked a “frenzy of anger” across Hollywood.
The actors union SAG-AFTRA has been the most vocal critic, explicitly denying that Norwood is an actor. In a statement, the union described her as a character generated by a computer program that lacks emotion and life experience. The union argued that such technology creates a system of using stolen performances to put human actors out of work and devalues human artistry.
This tension is rooted in broader labor disputes. CBS News notes that guardrails against the use of AI in production were a primary sticking point during 2023 negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and major studios, contributing to the first industry-wide strike in 15 years.
The Commercial Track Record of Tilly Norwood
While the feature film is in early development, Norwood’s previous foray into entertainment met with limited success. In March, Particle6 released a music video for a song titled “Take The Lead,” with Norwood credited as the artist. The release failed to find a broad audience, garnering fewer than 400,000 views on YouTube and receiving predominantly negative feedback from viewers.

Despite the poor reception of the music video, van der Velden has remained committed to the project. She told the Times of London that her background in improv comedy taught her to have “no shame” and helped her translate performance skills into the boardroom, suggesting that the provocative nature of the Norwood brand is a deliberate strategy.
Future Outlook for AI in Cinema
The development of Misaligned serves as a test case for whether audiences will accept a synthetic lead in a narrative feature. Particle6 claims that the filmmakers who thrive in the next decade will be those who can combine storytelling instincts with these new tools.
The project is currently in early development, with key collaborators being attached to the production. The studio plans to produce the film alongside its existing slate of AI service work and commercial brand campaigns.
