Title: Emergency Air Lift: Woman inCritical Condition Transferred From Blagoevgrad to Sofia
A 29-year-old woman, who slipped into a coma following an insulin shock, was airlifted from Blagoevgrad to the Sofia Regional Hospital in critical condition. This marked the fifth such air ambulance mission to Blagoevgrad this year.
The woman’s life remains in danger, and medical helicopters continue to play a crucial role in transferring patients between hospitals. Since the airborne emergency medical service was launched in June, 43 missions have been completed, with the majority being "hospital-to-hospital" transfers. Four initial missions transported patients directly from the incident scene to a medical facility. The youngest transported patient was a 4-year-old child, while the eldest was 92 years old.
Currently, two more medical helicopters are awaiting delivery. The second one is expected to arrive by the end of February 2025, and the third by the end of March 2025. However, previous delivery dates have been pushed back due to supply delays of critical components. Initially, the second helicopter was due in June 2024, and the third by December 2024.
