Air Defense Downs Iskander Missiles Near Kryvyi Rih

Ukraine‘s Air Defense Foils Russian Attack: All 3 Iskander-K Missiles Shot Down Near Kryviy Rih

Russia’s attempts to strike Kryviy Rih with three ground-launched Iskander-K cruise missiles failed after Ukrainian air defense forces intercepted and shot down all incoming projectiles. The Ukrainian Air Force’s Eastern Command confirmed the successful interception on Thursday, January 9.

"At 14:10, the enemy launched an attack on the city of Kryviy Rih using three ground-based, winged Iskander-K cruise missiles. All three missiles were successfully intercepted by the armed units of the Eastern Command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the statement read.

Earlier that day, Russia launched a barrage of 70 "shaft" drones and drone imitators against Ukraine. All of these were either shot down or affected by radio electronic warfare (REW) and lost contact.

The failed missile strike on Kryviy Rih underscores the continued threat from Russian forces, as well as the Ukrainian military’s resolve and capability in defending its territories.
